Photo monday

This was a rather productive quilting weekend, since we had rain for most of it. I’ll kick off the week with a photo of the feathered star medallion top. I want the last border to be 1″ finished and the binding to match, and the kit does not provide enough to accomplish that aim, so I will make a substitution. I am in no hurry to run to the quilt shop, so we are calling it complete. I was going to sell it, but DH decided this morning as I was trying to get pictures that he wants it.

Sorry for the quality. My tablet and the early morning light make it difficult to get the colors correct.

I also have the pine burr block from JT2 hand pieced and ready to press. Finally, I started in on my Boomerang blocks. I have four cut for machine piecing and one halfway hand pieced. I am so happy with these accomplishments and have my sights set on even more this week.

I started it before child number one, for my brother’ wedding gift, but the bride made it clear that she did not want anything handmade. So it went into the UFO bin and has not been out in four years. I still like the design and fabric choice, so it should be fun to finish. I am using Marti Michell’s 27″ feathered star. There are definite pluses about a short term project including positive momentum. On the other hand, here is a shot of the studio

I work messy. When I finish a quilt, the leftovers get swept into a tub under my cutting table. When the tub is full, I will comb through it to pull together a scrap project or file it away for future use. There is more than usual out because my husband is starting to work on shelving. My studio is in a cape cod room, so he opened up the kneewalls to add shelving into what would be dead space. I can’t wait to have the added storage, but in the meantime I keep shifting piles from place to place.

I am hoping to get JT2 cut today and started. Cindy Blackberg’s BOM also arrived so I have more than enough to keep me busy.
